Google
Cash Detective (GCD)
was actually the first tool
that I had heard of that
offered this instant PPC Ad
Spying capability when it
opened several months ago. I
was tempted to join up at the
time, but the price was super
high and it closed its doors
before I could make up my
mind.
Anyway, I
entered my name and email to
get access to the free 7 day
trial, and I’ve just spent a
couple of hours testing out the
capabilities of GCD 2. So I
think this is a good
opportunity to compare it to
the just launched PPC Bully
2.0
User
Interface
I think
here, PPC Bully 2.0 wins
out. The interface of PPC
Bully is definitely a lot
nicer aesthetically, and it
is also much easier to
navigate and use. You get
the ability to filter by
Profitability Index and
Search Volume which I don’t
see any way to do in GCD2. I
will say that the slides how
capability of GCD is a
pretty cool way to look at
the various landing pages
though. However, the rest of
the interface is very
sparse.
Searching
Here is
where Google Cash Detective
2 shines. It is much more
flexible and offers more
options to search through
its data. First of all, with
GCD2 you can search by
keywords, destination URL,
landing pages and ads. PPC
Bully 2 offers the first 3
options, but not the ad
search option. I can think
of some valuable uses for
the ad search, so that seems
like a big hole
there.
Second,
GCD2 allows you to specify
additional query operators
to filter down your results.
You have the standard
wildcard * which matches
anything. So
http: //*.
clickbank.
net would
find all Clickbank
affiliates. You can also use
+ to include a keyword term
and - to exclude a term. So
the query Acai -free would
match anything with “Acai”
in it that didn’t have the
word “free”. Plus GCD
supports the keywords AND
& OR which allow you to
create boo lean queries. It
is a little unclear on how
PPC Bully 2 works in this
area, but they don’t seem to
have any explicit operators
like this.
Results
It’s hard
for me to make any strong
conclusions here since I
have only been using both
tools for a short period of
time. It’s a little hard to
compare, since the way the
two tools display results is
a little different, but I
seem to get similar results
when performing the same
queries. However, GCD2 has
been around a lot longer, so
I think I get better and
more results with it than
PPC Bully 2.0
Also,
another advantage of Google
Cash Detective 2 is that it
seems to be able to give me
results for any query I give
it. One thing that’s annoyed
me the most about PPC Bully
so far is that there are
certain queries I want to
perform that it won’t do
because of “too many
results”. Queries like
hop.clickbank.net or t202kw=
both fail because of this
stupid limitation. If there
has to be a max limit, at
least show the results up to
this limit instead of none
at all. GCD2 doesn’t have
this problem and returns me
results for both these
queries.
Final
Thoughts
Both PPC
Bully 2 and Google Cash
Detective 2 have their own
strengths and weaknesses. I
think in the hands of an
experienced pay per click
marketer, both tools can be
very effective. However, I
still haven’t concluded yet
though whether either of
them are worth their high
price tags.
That said,
if you want to see if a PPC
ad spy tool can help you
create profitable PPC
campaigns, then you should
definitely give the 7 day
free trial of Google Cash
Detective 2 a
try.
There are
no strings attached other
then entering in your name
and email and you get a
chance to test drive the
full version completely free
for a week. That should be
ample time to launch a
couple of campaigns to see
if it can make you some
money. Try it out and tell
me what you
think.
